Navigating uncertainty: Narrative Medicine in pregnancy options counseling education
The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), designates nondirective counseling of patients with unintended pregnancy, or “pregnancy options counseling” as a necessary competency in medical education [1]. The addition of this competency acknowledges that regardless of their chosen specialty, students will encounter patients grappling with decisions around unintended pregnancy. Such patients need clear counseling on their pregnancy options – to seek prenatal care, adoption or abortion – and students must learn to provide this information without judgment or coercion.

Parenthood During Graduate Medical Education: A Scoping Review
Conclusions The findings from this scoping review have implications for policy and research. Those authoring parental leave policies could collaborate with national board leaders to develop consistent standards and include nontraditional families. Gaps in the literature include the effect of resident parenthood on patient care, postpartum health, and policy execution. Research in these areas would advance the literature on parenthood during residency.

Why are women still leaving academic medicine? A qualitative study within a London Medical School
Conclusion The women in our focus group reported several factors contributing to their decision to leave clinical academia, which included lack of mentoring tailored to specific needs, low levels of acceptance for flexible working to help meet parental responsibilities and perceived explicit gender biases. We summarise the multiple targeted strategies that Imperial College London has implemented to promote retention of women in academic medicine, although more research needs to be done to ascertain the most effective interventions.

In South Africa, high pregnancy and infection rates show that many teenagers are having sex, and that they are not adequately protecting themselves against undesired pregnancies and disease.
